A Force of Nature
The Life and Work of Jens Jensen

Presented by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Chicago Park District, A Force of Nature: The Life and Work of Jens Jensen was unveiled at the Chicago Cultural Center on March 9, 2002.

In addition to lectures, panel discussions, and workshops, the exhibition also featured the Cultural Landscape Foundation’s first Cultural Landscapes as Classrooms (CLC) CD-ROM, which highlights Jensen’s prairie-style masterwork, Chicago’s Columbus Park. Located at the finale of the exhibition at a bank of interactive kiosks, the Columbus Park CLC provided visitors an opportunity to examine one of Jensen’s landscapes firsthand.

Originally scheduled to close on June 16, 2002, the popular exhibition was extended to run through the summer. Plans are now underway for the exhibition to travel.

Artist in Residence
Shapers of the American Landscape
Preliminary production of Artist in Residence: Shapers of the American Landscape began in May 2002. TCLF has carefully selected practitioners whose work spans three centuries and captures the various movements in landscape architecture. For each site, scholars, historians, preservationists, and landscape architects from across the country have been chosen to write the text for their area of expertise that would serve as a chapter for an accompanying book. For details about the six subject areas of the exhibition, please refer to the 1999-2001 Annual Report.
