Garden Dialogues

On April 13/14 and April 27/28, get exclusive access to private gardens in Southern California and hear directly from the designers and their clients about their collaborative process.

How do clients and designers work together? What makes for a great, enduring collaboration? Garden Dialogues provides unique opportunities for small groups to visit some of today’s most beautiful gardens created by some of the most accomplished designers currently in practice.

	Saturday, April 13th, 3 to 4:30pm \| Pasadena A: The Blacker House Isabelle Greene, Isabelle Greene & Associates, Inc., with Jim Ipekjian, Ipekjian Custom Wood Works Greene and Greene in Pasadena equals design brilliance. Add landscape architect Isabelle Greene (a granddaughter), and impassioned homeowners, and you get a breathtaking restoration with a stream, lily pond, original wisteria and roses, all enclosed within five serene acres.
	Sunday, April 14th, 2 to 4pm \| Brentwood B: Contemporary Courtyards Pamela Palmer & Catherine Burce, ARTECHO Architecture & Landscape Architecture Streamlined elegance, exquisite juxtapositions of beautiful materials and casual comfort are combined in this Brentwood hideaway. Two interconnected courtyards feature strong geometric designs offset by water features, a fireplace, a rustic fence and lush plantings that envelop visitors.
	Saturday, April 27th, 1 to 2:30pm \| Brentwood C: Gilbert Residence Pamela Burton, Pamela Burton & Co. Landscape Architecture; Mario Violich, Moore Ruble Yudell A 1940s rambler’s spare simplicity is combined with a palette of low-growing grasses, fragrant shrubs, and seasonal flowers. Elegant landscape spaces include a white wisteria-shaded meditation garden, an outdoor dining room, and a simple swimming pool framed by lawn and bush anemone.
	Saturday, April 27th, 4 to 5:30pm \| Bel Air D: Architect's Garden Lisa Gimmy Landscape Architecture Sculptural succulents complement a classic modernist pavilion. Bold masses of kangaroo paws and ornamental grasses provide dramatic seasonal color. Anchored by a stacked stone fire pit, a wind-sheltered entertainment area invites contemplation of panoramic views.
	Sunday, April 28th, 3 to 4:30pm \| Montecito E: Firefly Susan Van Atta, Van Atta Associates, Inc. A mind and body cleansing property with spectacular views of the Santa Barbara coastline, includes an aromatherapeutic chamomile path to the yoga deck, a‘Provence garden’ complete with lavender and sunflowers, silvery lawn terraces and a sequence of still pools.
