Ten Events for Ten Years

A year long celebration, on the 10th anniversary of TCLF’s founding, to recognize others who share our vision of "stewardship through education." Throughout the year, under the celebratory umbrella of TEN 4 TEN, TCLF will bestow Stewardship Excellence Awards on ten individuals across the nation and, as such, will place a spotlight on those stewardship stories that have the power to educate and inspire future generations of cultural landscape stewards.

March 27 - 29, 2008

Charleston Garden Excursion
Charleston, SC

The cultural landscapes of Charleston, South Carolina, will be the focus of this two-day garden excursion limited to thirty attendees. Produced in partnership with the Historic Charleston Foundation, the authentic landscapes of Medway Plantation, Mepkin Abbey, and Magnolia Plantation as well as several privately-owned 19th and 20th-century properties will be showcased.

Designing the Parks
A Conference in Two Parts Examining the Design of
Buildings and Landscapes in Regional, State, and National Parks.

The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) is pleased to announce that they have joined the National Park Service, University of Virginia, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and the George Wright Society in co-sponsoring the national conference, Designing the Parks. To be held in Charlottesville, VA, and San Francisco, CA, in 2008. The two-part conference will examine the design of buildings and landscapes in regional, state, and national parks.

Roystonland Rediscovered
Garden Excursion No. I - Robert Royston, Northern California

The Cultural Landscape Foundation is pleased to offer this inaugural excursion to private gardens and parks designed by Royston over the last half century. The tour has been “curated” by the master landscape architect Robert Royston and Royston-biographer J.C. Miller. Proceeds will benefit the production of TCLF’s Oral History module dedicated to the life and legacy of Robert Royston.

Wilmington Wonders
and UPenn Architectural Archives Tea
Wilmington, DE

TCLF has secured exclusive access to two extraordinary private gardens in Wilmington, DE. Highlights include an astonishing unpublished masterwork by a local designer/owner and a special luncheon at the home of Governor and Mrs. Pierre S. du Pont, the last residential commission realized by Dan Kiley. The event will conclude with a curated tour/reception of original landscape drawings from UPenn’s Architectural Archives.

Fourth Annual Silent Auction
Annual Meeting of the ASLA, Philadelphia

TCLF will conduct its fourth annual Silent Auction in support of the Pioneers of American Landscape Design initiative at the 2008 meeting of the American Society of Landscape Architects in Philadelphia. This year’s auction will again include sketches, paintings, photographs, books, clothing, garden furniture, and other ephemera executed by notable landscape architects and artists.

Marvels of Modernism
Landslide Launch + Exhibit

In November 2008, TCLF will announce the 2008 Landslide selections: Marvels of Modernism, at a launch party and series of exhibition openings. The selected sites will be honored on the TCLF website and featured in Garden Design. TCLF will also highlight the winning entries in an exhibit of original photography curated by George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film and multiple signboard exhibits to be displayed across the country.

Second Wave of Modernism in Landscape Architecture in America
Conference, Chicago, IL

This conference will look at where Modernist ideas in landscape architectural practice are today. Presenters will explore this topic by showcasing the works of leading landscape architecture and garden design professionals to see what makes their work modern and how it is influenced by the earlier movement. The main conference will be held at the Chicago Architecture Foundation with associated events taking place throughout the city.
