Leslie Rose Close

Leslie Rose Close founded the Program in American Landscape History at Wave Hill, in New York City. In 1986, she co-founded The Catalog of Landscape Records in the United States, the first cumulative index of documentation for American landscapes, now housed at the New York Botanical Garden.

Her work at Wave Hill received grants and awards from both the National Endowment for the Arts and for the Humanities, the New York State Council on the Arts, and other arts foundations.

Ms. Close has taught landscape history and theory, and has lectured and written with particular focus on the history of women in landscape architecture; contemporary art and the landscape;  and the history of the photography of gardens.

Ms. Close lives in Bridgehampton, New York, where she tends a large food garden.
