This Land

An additional project being developed, entitled This Land, is a multimedia experience that celebrates our ongoing relationship with the American cultural landscape. By presenting short narratives by great American authors and playwrights, each associated with a distinct regional landscape, This Land weaves their personal stories into an educational experience which is both engaging and exhilarating.

On Earth Day (year to be determined), an interactive video wall will premiere in several museums across America. The wall will feature the spoken narratives of twelve great American writers who will each tell a personal story about a regional landscape that has had a profound impact on their lives and their attitudes toward the land.

The video wall will celebrate America’s vast legacy of cultural landscapes—reflecting on this nation’s deep and complex responses to nature. Just as the individual narratives will move the viewer through a wide variety of landscapes across the country, the wall will serve as a grand tour of our ever changing landscape, often contrasting a rural village or a pastoral park whose character has be maintained for a century or so, with an agricultural vista which has now become a condominium development or an office park.

The two primary products produced will be the video wall and accompanying book. Associated with these products will be a variety of visitor opportunities including an interactive kiosk, online web site, and lesson plans. An online website may also be established where visitors could explore a rich depository of images and create an educational forum.
