Pear Trees Ellwanger Garden Rochester, New York The Pear Trees (Pyrus communis ssp.)within the Ellwanger Garden are associated with the renowned horticulturist George Ellwanger, of Ellwanger and Barry Nurseries. The 140-year-old garden was designed around the pear trees, which continue to bear fruit, and illustrate the dual elements of functionality and aesthetics that can be present in a working landscape. The Ellwanger and Barry Nurseries hallmark the strong legacy of commercial horticulture that continues in Rochester today.
