Threat

Over the past decade, due largely to deferred maintenance, Heritage Plaza has witnessed a steady decline. In September 2007, chain link fencing was installed around the perimeter and the plaza was indefinitely closed to the public. Today, Heritage Plaza is in a deteriorated state – with fountains dry, trees overgrown, understory plantings dead or removed, and steps, paving, and site furnishings deteriorated or broken. If the trend continues the historically significant design faces an uncertain future.
