Ayla Mangold researches and crafts educational content for TCLF’s What’s Out There and Pioneers of American Landscape Design programs. She comes to TCLF with a background in historic and cultural preservation, having conducted research for several government and non-profit entities. In her work with the National Park Service, she researched and analyzed African American cultural heritage sites in support of National Register nominations, subsequently developing a resource study that helped preservation officers identify and preserve Reconstruction-era, African American schoolhouses. While with the U.S. House of Representatives’ Office of the Historian, her research supported the book Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in Congress, 1900-2017. Ayla earned her M.A. in museum studies from The George Washington University and her B.A. in history from the University of Maryland, College Park.
