Reception at Penn Archives Will Honor Harriet Pattison

Philadelphia, PA

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT.

Coinciding with the ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO in Philadelphia, The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) is holding a reception in honor of landscape architect Harriet Pattison, FASLA, at the Harvey and Irwin Kroiz Gallery at the Architectural Archives of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Design.

In a career spanning more than 50 years, Pattison worked with leading twentieth-century practitioners, including noted Modernist architect Louis Kahn and landscape architect George Patton, with whom she collaborated on the design for the iconic Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Pattison also worked on Kahn’s posthumously realized commission, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island, New York, which opened in 2012. Rare, original drawings done by Pattison and Kahn for those two projects will be on display at the reception.

In 2016 TCLF launched the thirteenth installment in its award-winning Pioneers of American Landscape Design® Oral History Project, documenting Pattison’s life and career. Her oeuvre ranges from residential gardens and public housing to the 150-acre Hershey Company campus. Pattison is the third woman documented by the series. Her work in post-World War II American cities, in a profession traditionally dominated by men, is an indispensable and inspiring chapter in the history of landscape architecture.

Attendees of the excursion Longwood Gardens: Experience a World Apart (separate registration required) who register to attend the reception will be transported to the Penn Archives in time for the start of the reception.
