history continued

This majestic Southern Live Oak is a vestige of the early settlement of Louisiana. The tree epitomizes all of the defining characteristics of a mature southern live oak: wide-spreading growth, massive reaching limbs, and an open, spatial canopy. It has witnessed and withstood development of the original Hundred Oaks Plantation, the Civil War, the transformation of the plantation property into the neighborhoods of the 1920s, and rapid housing growth through the 1930s and 1940s. The stewards of the Southern Live Oak and the property on which it sits, have protected it from the forces of development and encouraged its survival in the face of significant cultural shifts and assured its continued existence.
