Crowley Cottrell, working in tandem with Jill Neubauer Architects, designed a plan to blur the edges between the modern farmhouse, property, and the forest beyond. Gardens embrace all sides of the house: perennial gardens create a welcoming entry on the east and south; a woodland garden transitions to mixed deciduous forest on the north; and lush native plantings surround a terrace on the west.

Steps of granite and flagstone lead down from the terrace and low-bush blueberry stabilizes the embankment while providing fruit and brilliant fall color. A restored, traditional fieldstone wall separates the property from the road. Insects and wildlife abound in this rewilded landscape, restoring the previously degraded site into a rich habitat bound to thrill its occupants for many seasons to come.
