Leadership and Staff

The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) was founded by Charles A. Birnbaum in 1998 to document cultural landscapes and advocate for their stewardship. Twenty years later, the organization continues to fulfill its dual mission, but now through a broad array of initiatives hardly imaginable at its founding. These include comprehensive databases of cultural landscapes and practitioners, video oral histories, strategic communications campaigns and advocacy, free tours, international conferences, traveling exhibitions, and scholarly books. While TCLF draws upon a nationwide network of educators, graduate students, and interns to leverage local knowledge and skills, the organization’s leadership reflects the diverse areas of expertise necessary to guide its wide range of programming, combining deep experience in non-profit administration, community engagement, public relations, and marketing with backgrounds in landscape architecture, design, resource stewardship, research, and teaching.
