threat

The story of this tree is endemic of the fate of thousands of specimen trees in Seattle’s Washington Park Arboretum. The premier location of the Arboretum has made it vulnerable to road expansion and related transportation development since the early 1960s. The full impact of the proposed project to widen State Road 520 is difficult to estimate as there has not been a full review of the historically significant landscape features that would be threatened. The close proximity of the Eucalyptus Tree to the road, however, insures its vulnerability. The road widening, if realized, would certainly destroy the tree and severely harm the natural treasures of the Arboretum.
