A native of Rochester, James M. Via has degrees in painting and photography from Bradley University
and Illinois State University. He did post-graduate work at the Visual Studies Workshop and at
Rochester Institute of Technology. Via’s interest in architecture, history, and Romanticism is reflected in
both his black-and-white and his color work. His major project over the decade has been photographing
the Neolithic standing stones of France using a large-format camera.
