Estates Drive Reservoir HelpGet InvolvedThe EBMUD has the opportunity to honor its legacy by recognizing the significance of its support of high-quality design which led to the realization of this project by pioneering landscape architect, Robert Royston. The collaboration between EBMUD’s engineers and the landscape architecture firm, Royston Hanamoto Mayes and Beck and the resulting open-cut reservoir and fountains successfully addressed both logistical and aesthetic concerns. As EBMUD revisits the site, Estates Drive Reservoir can become a dynamic stewardship story, representative of EBMUD’s desire to meet the challenge of protecting this large-scale sculpture while providing for the needs of the community. The public can help bring attention to this historic resource in hopes of educating EBMUD about the significance of both the design and designer. It is hoped that a suitable compromise may be found that will allow EBMUD to meet its functional objectives without having to sacrifice Royston’s landscape design which was, in fact, created to address similar water safety issues over 40 years ago.
