Harris Steinberg FAIA

Adjunct Assistant Professor, City & Regional Planning, PennPraxis, The University of Pennsylvania School of Design

Mr. Steinberg, FAIA, is the founding executive director of PennPraxis, the applied research arm of the School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania, and he is an adjunct associate professor of city and regional planning at Penn where he teaches a second-year graduate planning studio.  His work at PennPraxis centers on large-scale civic visioning projects including the landmark 2006-2007Civic Vision for the Central Delaware which engaged more than 4,000 Philadelphians in the creation of a new vision for Philadelphia’s Delaware waterfront that is currently guiding waterfront development. Current projects include an action plan to animate the Benjamin Franklin Parkway - Philadelphia’s premier cultural district; identifying a series of new civic landscapes for the Philadelphia region; and a case study in civic innovation that focuses on the impact of the Philadelphia Live Arts and Fringe Festival on neighborhood revitalization. In 2010, PennPraxis completed Green2015: An action plan for the first 500 acres for Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. The plan provides a road map to the administration of Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter to add 500 acres of park space to the city by 2015; ensuring that all Philadelphians live within a ½-mile walk of a park.
