Douglas Reed, FASLA

Mr. Reed, Principal of Reed Hilderbrand, founded the firm in 1993 and has built a reputation for excellence in design with award-winning projects for institutions and private landowners throughout the United States and abroad. He is a graduate of Louisiana State University and the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and has taught at the University of Virginia, Louisiana State University, and the Radcliffe Seminars in Landscape Design. He is a Board member and co-chair of The Cultural Landscape Foundation. Prior to 1993, Reed was a principal of Child Associates, Inc., where he co-directed the design and implementation of the firm’s projects including the master plan of Stan Hywet Hall, Akron, OH, which received the 1987 Honor Award for Design from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and the Trustees Emeritus Award for Excellence in the Stewardship of Historic Sites from the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1997.  Reed also designed and managed the Children’s Therapeutic Garden in Wellesley, MA, which received the 1997 President’s Award for Design Excellence by the ASLA, the highest honor given to any project by the society. Recent Reed Hilderbrand projects include Phoenix Art Museum, the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, Bennington College, Louisiana Old State Capitol, the Parrish Art Museum, the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, Long Dock Beacon in the Hudson Valley, and residences in New England, New York, Virginia, Texas, and California.
