Ms. Cochran is the principal and founder of Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture, established in 1998. She has been practicing as a landscape architect in the San Francisco Bay Area for over twenty five years after graduating from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Ms. Cochran’s distinct body of work places her clients’ individual narratives in conversation with the land to create designs with deeply personal meanings. Her professional experience in the office of Jose Luis Sert was pivotal in informing an approach to landscape design which mediates the intersection of architecture, landscape and the larger environment. The work of site-specific artists is important to her designs, adding both new perspectives and material innovation. In 2006, Ms. Cochran was a finalist for the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards. Other recent award winning projects include Curran House, San Francisco, 2007 ASLA Honor Award; Private Residence, San Francisco, 2006 Merit Award, ASLA Northern California; Ivy Street Roof Terrace, San Francisco, 2005 ASLA Honor Award ASLA; Dore & Folsom Apartments, San Francisco, 2005 AIA National Green Building Award. A monograph of her work will be published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2009.
