M. Paul Friedberg, FASLA

Mr. Friedberg has served on the faculty at Columbia University, Harvard University, Pratt Institute, and other universities.  Recognizing the need to educate a new generation of professionals, he founded the Urban Landscape Architecture Program at the City College of New York in 1970, all while remaining a Principal at his own design firm, M. Paul Friedberg & Partners in New York City.  Friedberg first became a leading designer of new public spaces including diminutive vest-pocket parks, municipal and corporate plazas and main street malls during the 1960’s.  Friedberg's recent work (such as Battery Park on Manhattan's southern tip) illustrates his varied talents and convictions and represents his continued interest in fostering public-private partnerships. Some of his notable works include:  the first Adventure Playground at Riis Plaza, New York City; Peavey Plaza, Minneapolis and the A.C. Neilsen Headquarters in Chicago.  Friedberg has also designed the Fulton County Government Plaza in Atlanta, Georgia (where Friedberg immerses the visitor into the landscape); Pershing Park in Washington D.C., and Calgary's 1987 Olympic Plaza.
