2011 New York Chapter ASLA Dinner
2011 New York Chapter ASLA Dinner Honors Design Trust, Charles A. Birnbaum and Len Hopper
On November 17, 2011, the New York Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (NYASLA) will honor two individuals and an organization whose efforts have contributed significantly to the development, stewardship and enjoyment of the landscape and advanced the field of landscape architecture:
The President’s Award will be presented to Design Trust for Public Space, which has brought visionary thinking to how cities work. The Design Trust has changed the way New York City's public spaces are designed, managed and used by forging critical alliances between city agencies, community groups and the private sector.
The Service Award will be given to Charles A. Birnbaum, FASLA, FAAR, Founder and President of The Cultural Landscape Foundation, expert in landscape preservation and urban design, and former coordinator of the National Park Service Historic Landscape Initiative.
The Education Award will go to Len Hopper, FASLA, Editor-in-Chief of the definitive reference work, Landscape Architectural Graphic Standards, and an adjunct professor at City College of New York and Columbia University. Len’s work incorporates human sustainability, in which design of the urban environment maximizes the use and enjoyment of public space.
