A century ago, the natural landscape of the Midwest inspired a new American architectural and landscape design expression known as the Prairie Style. The 150th birthday anniversary of landscape designer Jens Jensen in 2010, offers a timely and unique opportunity to explore the Prairie Style legacy in southeast Michigan.
Presentations at these sites will focus on the historical context of the Prairie Style in early 20th century; the designs and cultural contributions brought to these properties by early practitioners of this style; interpretation techniques being developed; sites and sources for additional resources on the topic; and future significance of Prairie Style landscapes as related to sustainability issues.
The Symposium is limited to approximately 60 participants due to facility size limitations.
