This intimate suburban lot is located in Southampton, New York. With the property situated on one of many side streets, without views of the ocean or salt marshes, Devore Associates chose to focus inward. Different garden rooms were created by developing a series of spaces that relate directly to the interior rooms and porches.
Using a seaside palette, the entrance drive and courtyard are lined with plantings of different textures. Juniper needles contrast with the round green leaves of the hydrangea while grasses soften the edge. The front porch opens onto a game lawn framed by a variety of native grasses with a curvilinear bench that beckons one into the landscape. The library and living room look down upon a white perennial garden with a water feature which muffles the sound of any passing traffic. The back porch paving extends into the lawn, grass steps lead one’s eye up to the pleached linden tree dining area and black swimming pool.
From the pots to the angular wood pool fence, every detail has been carefully thought out. Designed with clean lines, the result is a simple and elegant garden where there is no distinction between the inside and outside.
This Garden Dialogue will be led by Diane Devore from Devore Associates and Declan Blackmore from Summerhill Landscapes. Refreshments will be provided.
