Garden Dialogues

Garden Dialogues 2024: Greenwich, CT

Greenwich, CT

Register now to explore this lush, two-acre estate in the exclusive Connecticut “Gold Coast” town of Greenwich. The landscape includes an elliptical garden with a hornbeam hedge and sculptural native Star Magnolias that shields the home from the street. A primary and secondary dwelling sits on each end of the property, between which is a newly organized and easily traversed outdoor living area with a pool, double perennial borders, and vegetable and cutting garden.

Perennial borders are centered on the home’s living room doors and the main bedroom’s second floor balcony, providing an ever-changing dynamic view. The central turf pathway was created with a clover-rich seed mix to be both low-maintenance and sustain wildlife. A new apple orchard and large well-used vegetable and cutting garden provides food and flowers for the family to enjoy. The garden works with the natural topography and is designed to make efficient use of the sloping site. Flowering annuals grown from seed on site are incorporated into the garden along with the vegetables and extend the seasonal flower production.

The completely renovated pool area, now surrounded by lush colorful plantings, was enlarged and flattened to create a more functional and enjoyable space. The new pathway, centered on the shade structure in the vegetable garden, links the area to the rest of the property.

Designed specifically to be sensitive to pollinators, birds, and other wildlife, chemical-free, and organic choices were made throughout the installation and continue to be practiced with the upkeep of the property along with the conservation of water.
