Good Books, Good Friends: Instagram Takeover with Jeffrey Milstein
In conjunction with The Cultural Landscape Foundation’s (TCLF) Good Books, Good Friends auction, TCLF’s Instagram account (@TCLFdotORG), will host two “Instagram Takeovers” highlighting books featured in the auction and the people and stories behind them. The first “Takeover” with guest curators Robert Burley and Walter Kehm revealed the narrative behind their book Accidental Wilderness: the origins and ecology of Toronto’s Tommy Thompson Park, a richly illustrated volume chronicling the origin and transformation of former landfill transformed into a public park.
The second “Takeover” will be March 8 – 12 with guest curator Jeffrey Milstein. His book Paris from the Air, available April 2021, shares a view of Paris once only reserved for the birds. By hang out of a doorless helicopter at 1000 feet, Milstein revels the hidden geometry and symmetry of Paris, “Combining daring aerial photography with the restricted airspace over Paris provides both breathtaking and unparalleled views,” according to the book’s publisher Rizzoli.
“The Place des Vosges unfolds as a huge green butterfly in the midst of uniform lines of blue-gray rooftops. The Place Victor Hugo, a nexus point where 10 streets meet, looks out at you like a solitary, unblinking eye. The tip of the Tour Eiffel stretches up like the stigma of a delicate, iron flower. Very fittingly, Paris from above is one giant work of art” says Milstein.
The book includes images of Parisian landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe, Musée du Louvre, Jardin des Tuileries, Hôtel des Invalides, Tour Montparnasse, Centre Pompidou, the Seine, and La Défense. According to Milstein “This book is sure to be treasured by tourists and Parisians alike.”
