TCLF Announces 2012 Season of Events Calendar

For the 2012 Season of Events – themed Landscape and Patronage - TCLF introduces Garden Dialogues, with exclusive access to great gardens, their owners and their landscape architects; a new day-long garden excursion in exclusive Aspen, CO; and returns with new versions of favorite programs including What’s Out There Weekends in Washington, DC and New York City. Many thanks go to presenting sponsors Charles Luck and The Davey Tree Expert Company, along with our educational partners the American Society of Landscape Architects and Garden Design magazine who are promoting the 2012 Season of Events.

Upcoming highlights include:

• Garden Dialogues. A new series featuring exclusive access to extraordinary gardens in the Hamptons, Sonoma, Palm Beach, Newport and elsewhere PLUS intimate conversations with the garden owners and their landscape architects. This April, June and July, visit personal paradises and discover how great collaborations make great gardens.
• Bridging the Nature-Culture Divide II: Stewardship of Central Park’s Woodlands. The Central Park Woodlands – a forest within the city – is beloved by environmentalists, bird watchers, dog walkers and others, but how do we get these impassioned groups to agree on how to take care of this remarkable site? TCLF’s one-day symposium organized in concert with the Central Park Conservancy on October 5 (the day before What’s Out There Weekend) looks at Bridging the Nature-Culture Divide and features nationally prominent practitioners, stewards and scholars.
• What’s Out There Weekends. Now in its third year – more, Free, expert led tours. Explore the Italian influence on Washington, DC’s parks and gardens, May 19-20, and the extraordinary wealth of parks, plazas and designed open spaces in New York City, October 6-7. The Washington, DC weekend will be preceded on May 10 by a lecture on The Influence of the Italian Garden on Garden Design and Landscape Preservation in America.
• Aspen Garden Excursion. June. Aspen. Visiting Private Gardens. What could be better? The limited number of tickets for this June 23rd tour of gardens designed by Herbert Bayer and Andrew Goldsworthy, and access to other award-winning private residential landscapes will sell out fast! Attendees will also get an inside look at the extraordinary steps being taken to preserve Aspen’s remarkable environment and the people making it happen.
• Civic Horticulture Conference. We’ll have more details soon about this October 12th event, but know that we’re working with The Philadelphia Horticulture Society so it will be a great one.

Other 2012 events include our annual Silent Auction on September 29-30, and a benefit luncheon in a not-to-be-missed garden, both in conjunction with the ASLA Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ. TCLF is also launching two new Pioneers Oral History modules: Joseph Yamada and Shlomo Aronson; the Every Tree Tells a Story exhibition continues its national tour.
