Lisa E. Delplace

Lisa Delplace, FASLA, a principal and the CEO of OEHME, VAN SWEDEN | OvS, has more than 30 years of professional experience. Her extensive knowledge of ecological processes and her deep commitment to their artistic execution result in a strong sculptural relationship between architecture and landscape that is evident in her body of work. In addition to her leadership role in the firm, she is responsible for the planning, design, and execution of many of its notable commissions.

Ms. Delplace’s works have been featured in Architectural Digest, Landscape Architecture Magazine, and Mountain Resort Magazine, and in the books A Clearing in the Woods, by Roger Foley, and The New American Garden, edited by James Grayson Trulove. She is a 2019 recipient of The Washington Business Journal’s ‘Women Who Mean Business’ honor, and her work at the Tippet Rise Art Center in Fishtail, Montana, earned a 2018 Honor Award for General Design from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). For her work at the Old Naval Hospital in Washington, D.C., she was awarded the Historic Preservation Review Board Chairman’s Award in 2012. Under her leadership as CEO, OvS was awarded the 2014 Landscape Architecture Firm Award by the ASLA, the highest honor bestowed on a firm.

Ms. Delplace holds an M.L.A. from the University of Michigan and a B.S. in park planning and design from Michigan State University. She has served as a visiting critic and lecturer for distinguished universities and professional organizations and is the former chairperson of the Visiting Committee of the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources. Her international experience includes service as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya, East Africa.

Sheila A. Brady

Sheila Brady, FASLA, is a principal of the firm with more than 33 years tenure and is a recognized leader and innovator in the field of sustainable design for a broad range of public, private, corporate, and residential clients. Her design approach demonstrates a sensitive response to the site’s natural environment and context, and her projects range in scale from the campuses of institutions and national memorials to mixed-use and residential developments, to botanic gardens, public parks, and residential designs.

Ms. Brady was recently named a recipient of Audubon New York’s 2017 Thomas W. Keesee, Jr. Conservation Award. Her work at the Coastal Island Retreat residence in Pine Island, South Carolina, earned an Honor Award for Residential Design from the ASLA. She regularly lectures before varied audiences and professional associations, including the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Philadelphia Flower Show, The New York Botanical Garden, The Chicago Botanic Garden, and the Chautauqua Institution.

A registered landscape architect, Ms. Brady has been elected to the Council of Fellows of the ASLA and is also a Fellow of the Garden Conservancy. She holds an M.L.A. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and a B.A. in education / fine arts from George Washington University. She has studied at the Corcoran School of Art, and has taught landscape architecture at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Design.

Statement: Lisa E. Delplace, FASLA, and Sheila A. Brady, FASLA, are delighted to pledge $10,000 for the Cornelia Hahn Oberlander International Landscape Architecture Prize. They do so on behalf of their entire firm, OEHME, VAN SWEDEN | OvS, a women-owned business that champions diversity and equity in the practice of landscape architecture. Throughout their careers, Lisa and Sheila have been the beneficiaries of the talented, trail-blazing women who have set a precedent in their craft. As mentors themselves, they seek to establish the next generation of influential practitioners, each of whom reflect unique talents, perspectives, and expertise. Together with their partner, Eric D. Groft, FASLA, they are pleased to encourage future visionaries and recognize Cornelia’s iconic role in the field, and her impact on diversity within the practice of landscape architecture.
