Seeking information about the architect, planner, and urban historian Erwin Anton Gutkind

After having been a successful Modernist architect in Berlin before World War II, Erwin Anton Gutkind dedicated the second half of his life to studying and writing about international city development. His work culminated in the monumental, eight-volumeInternational History of City Development series, published by Free Press, which he wrote while he was a research professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Institute for Urban Studies, from the late 1950s until his death in 1968. I am hoping to talk to Gutkind’s former students, or those who have known him otherwise during his time in Philadelphia.

Do you have additional information about Gutkind, or have firsthand knowledge about his career at the University of Pennsylvania?
