Taewook Cha, FASLA

Taewook Cha is a registered landscape architect and founding principal of Supermass Studio, a landscape architecture practice based in New York City since 2011. With nearly 30 years of experience in the United States and internationally, Taewook has dedicated most of his career to the innovation and advancement of public spaces in complex urban environments. His primary interest lies at the intersection of landscape, urbanism, and ecology, guided by three core principles of “unorthodox creativity,” “opportunistic diversity”, and “socio-environmental responsibility.” 

His recent work at Supermass Studio includes Mulberry Commons Park in Newark, NJ; Wisconsin Riverfront Park in Wisconsin Rapids, WI; the ETEC Innovation Center at the University at Albany, NY; Concourse Parks at LaGuardia Airport’s New Terminal B in New York, NY; and Holdrooms and Welcome Center at Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A in Newark, NJ. His projects have garnered numerous accolades, including design awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Architizer, and World Landscape Architecture (WLA). 

Taewook earned Master of Landscape Architecture degrees from Harvard University and Seoul National University, and a Bachelor of Agriculture in Horticulture from Korea University in South Korea. He serves as an executive board member of ASLA-NY and co-chairs its DEI Committee.
