Plans to Redesign Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Grounds Halted

The Danforth Foundation, the St. Louis philanthropic organization interested in building a new “world-class” attraction on the grounds of the Dan Kiley-designed landscape at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, has announced that it will step back efforts to fast-track their plans. Due in part to the economic downturn, the company is stepping back from plans to redevelop the site, which includes the St. Louis Arch.

As the National Park Service continues on a General Management Plan, our attention turns to developing an approach for a design competition at the Arch. This competition will inspire us to look at Dan Kiley’s landscape in new and relevant ways for tomorrow’s visitors while retaining the true spirit and purpose of the park.
