The Cultural Landscape Foundation Announces a New Season of Garden Dialogues – June & July – Exclusive Access to Private Gardens, their Owners & Designers in New York & Greenwich, CT

New Season follows Successful 2012 Inauguration–One of TCLF’s Most Popular Programs–NY Events in Brooklyn, Bronxville, the Hamptons, Hastings-on-Hudson, Manhattan, Millbrook, & Westchester

Washington, DC (May 6, 2013) - What's Out There Garden Dialogues, a national program inaugurated in 2012 by The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) that offers exclusive access to some of today’s most beautiful and innovative gardens, and the opportunity to learn about the creative process from the garden designers and their clients, has been expanded to more than three dozen locations in 2013 – including seven in the metro-New York City area, June 1st –July 14th, and two sites in Greenwich, Connecticut, June 29th-30th. Garden Dialogues has become one of the most popular programs in the foundation’s 15-year history, with most Dialogues sold out weeks in advance. The 2013 Garden Dialogues, taking place nationally through August, provide a distinct look at gardens and enable participants to hear firsthand about the collaborative process that led to the creation of each garden. Dialogues have already been held in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Palm Beach, Miami, Phoenix, Washington, DC and elsewhere, including Marcel Breuer’s restored 1951 home in New Canaan, CT.  Additional Dialogues are currently scheduled in Kentucky and Portland, OR, and will be announced for Massachusetts, Minneapolis, the San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle. Space is limited and nearly all Garden Dialogues are $35.00 each. Seibert & Rice Fine Italian Terra Cotta and Charles Luck are the national sponsors of Garden Dialogues.

How do garden owners and their landscape architects or designers work together to create a great garden? Garden Dialogues brings together patrons and designers to reveal the creative process, the give and take, and the collaboration that yields a great garden. Garden Dialogues provides unique opportunities for small groups to experience some of today’s most beautiful gardens created by some of the most accomplished designers currently in practice.

Metro-New York City Garden Dialogues Destinations:

A: Saturday, June 1st, 2 to 3:30pm | Hastings-on-Hudson (Register today) – New World Garden by Larry Weaner Landscape Associates. A storybook rustic stone home sits within an enchanted forest, native meadow, pond plantings and a cutting garden – all on one acre. Rustic gates, arbors, and a circular bench made from recycled New York City curbstone complement the owners’ “New World Garden.”

B: Sunday, June 2nd, 2 to 3:30pm | Brooklyn (Register today)– Brooklyn Heights Townhouse by Robin Key, Robin Key Landscape Architecture. This private townhouse garden was the lifelong personal home of landscape architect Alice Recknagel Ireys. Working with Robin Key in 2007, new owners retained mature plantings and much of Ireys’ original design, while adding two gracefully curving staircases of their own.

C: Wednesday, June 12th, 5:30 to 7:30pm | The Battery, NYC (Register today) – Battery Rooftop Garden by Mark K. Morrison Landscape Architecture. Manhattan’s largest rooftop garden (in the city’s first LEED platinum condominium), it has spectacular views of the harbor. The owners of this cleverly designed site grow fruit, berries, and vegetables, have ornamental shrubs and trees and a glorious location for al fresco dining.

D: Saturday, June 15th, 10 to 11:30am | Bronxville (Register today) – Together Again: In-town Retreat by Renée Byers, Landscape Architect, P.C., with Charles Hilton, Architect. A spacious property with a 1920s main house and new guesthouse was created from three subdivided lots. A luxurious planting palette, a tranquil pool, outdoor dining area and mature trees all contribute to an atmosphere of seclusion and comfort.

E: Thursday, July 11th, 5pm to 7pm | Westchester County (Register today) – Northern Westchester Estate by Larry Weaner Landscape Associates. This commanding and extensive 56-acre northern Westchester estate includes a five-acre native wildflower meadow, a seemingly simple act of nature that is actually a carefully designed and dynamic ecosystem that changes over time. Visitors will experience the meadow’s varying stages of development, from preparation for meadow planting to colorful mature grasses and wildflowers.

F: Saturday, July 13th, 11am to 12:30pm | Millbrook (Register today) – Junto Farm by Peter Morrow Meyer, Raycroft | Meyer Landscape Architecture. This 150-acre retreat with magnificent views cleverly balances modern, contemporary and rustic design concepts. Some elements of the Oehme Van Sweden-designed landscape remain, to which have been added a hedge maze, lilac walk, orchards, stone walls and more.

The Hamptons Garden Dialogues Destinations:

A: Saturday, June 1st, 11 to 12:30pm | Amagansett (Register today)– The Alexander Residence
by Thomas Balsley of Thomas Balsley Associates. The outdoor living landscape at this oceanside property mediates between dune and a restored meadow environment. Both are viewed from a large glass living space hovering above an outdoor living space comprised of terraces, pools, lawns and perennial gardens.

Greenwich, CT Garden Dialogues Destinations:

B: Saturday, June 29th, 10 to 11am | Greenwich (Register today)– Belle Haven Estate by Doyle Herman Design Associates. The meticulous beauty of this elegant three-acre property in exclusive Belle Haven is due to a careful collaboration between the landscape architect and property owner. The site’s strong axial line runs from the entrance drive to a serene pool and is richly articulated with boxwood, plane and tulip trees, stone and other features.

C: Sunday, June 30th, 4 to 5:30pm | Greenwich (Register today)– On the Water by Janice Parker, Janice Parker Landscape Design. In Greenwich, a secluded inlet on Long Island Sound has been transformed into a lush, contemporary landscape. The design’s strong axial lines feature stone paths and elegant granite terraces with grass jointing that creates a verdant framework. There are contemplative seating areas to relax and watch the sunset, an area for tennis, a loggia for outdoor eating, and a pool.
