On October 4, 2013, a settlement agreement was reached by the City of Minneapolis, The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) and the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (PAM), that prevents the demolition of Peavey Plaza and moves forward with the site’s rehabilitation.

Peavey, designed by New York-based landscape architect M. Paul Friedberg, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 for its significance in landscape architecture and is the progenitor of the “park plaza” typology.  In 2012 plans were announced to demolish the plaza, which lies adjacent to the city’s recently refurbished Orchestra Hall. The settlement agreement states that PAM, TCLF and the City will work together on a new plan that maintains Peavey’s historic character while rehabilitating it to address access, maintenance, and programming issues.
