Founding Partner and Design Director, West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture
Adriaan Geuze is cofounder and design director of West 8, one of the world’s leading practices for landscape architecture and urban design. Mr. Geuze has established an enormous reputation on an international level with his visionary approach to planning and design of the built environment. Under his leadership, West 8 has remained at the frontline of international urban design and landscape architecture for over 30 years. Mr. Geuze, with his office West 8, has won many high-profile international design competitions, such as Governors Island in New York City, Toronto’s New Central Waterfront, and Madrid RIO, which was awarded The Veronica Rudge Green Prize for Urban Design from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 2015.
Based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and New York City, Mr. Geuze and his West 8 office are responsible for such diverse works as the Kröller-Müller Sculpture Park in Otterlo, the Netherlands; Governors Island Park and Public Spaces in New York City; Longwood Gardens’ Master Plan and Main Fountain Garden in Pennsylvania; and Toronto’s Central Waterfront. In 2015 Mr. Geuze and West 8 were awarded the commission to design an entirely new world-class botanic garden for Houston and have since been engaged in the Drexel University’s Public Realm Plan, a revitalization urban-design project. Drexel Square at Schuylkill Yards, a design of West 8, together with SHoP Architects, broke ground in November 2016.
